BECOMING AN INSTRUCTOR : REQUIREMENTS

Am I suitable?

Do you meet the criteria?

In order to become a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor - DSA ADI (cars) you must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Have held a car driving licence for at least 4 out of the last 6 years. (N.B. The following count towards the 4 years: a foreign driving licence, automatic car licence, or a provisional licence held after passing the test).
  • Have not been disqualified from driving during the last 4 years.  
  • Be a fit and proper person to have your name entered in the register. You will have to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check prior to entering the register. All convictions, including motoring offences still in force will be taken into account. If you are concerned about this please speak to us first on 0800 834667 or 01568 616555.
  • Pass the qualifying exams.

N.B.  You cannot accompany a provisional licence holder unless you have held a full UK Driving Licence for 3 years and are over 21 years of age.
